I've started drawing Yonis (Yoni: Vulva in Sanskrit) and menstruation since 2012, it was my way of dealing with not that pleasant experience, amenorrhea. I kind of tried to visualize and express what I was hoping and dreaming for. It did pay off and after 2 years with the support of my husband, the help of a lovely person specializing in healing, and a herb, I got my period back.
There is always something good or even profound in everything that is bad. Amenorrhea made me start visualizing my dreams and hopes in order to express them through art and crafts and in addition it was a way to connect with my femininity. I had even drawn the pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding of my daughter in advance, and I'm sure it helped me tremendously in having a healthy pregnancy and a beautiful natural birth; of course trusting nature, my body, my baby and my Doula payed a major part.
